And here I was wondering what topic I'd tackle in this week's column. This is a perfect topic. Of course, what irritates and annoys is personal, but I can relate with many of these items, especially rumpled bedsheets! I can't sleep in a bed that hasn't been neatly made unless I am beyond exhausted. Drives my wife mad, who could sleep in broad daylight in a hay wagon pulled by a pack of sneezing elephants through rush hour traffic in the rain. She amazes me...
Sticky floors, odors, clothing that doesn't fit right... The world would have me think that I'm simply oversensitive - a whiner and a complainer. The world would be wrong. For people with AD/HD these sensations are noise that can crowd out thought and interrupt concentration. Great article! ~Douglas ~=~ http://thesplinteredmind.blogspot.com - Fighting neurological disabilities with attitude and humor Thanks, Douglas. Your comments hit the mark- and made me laugh. This whole thing about hypersensitivities intrigues me because I think there is so much to it that we've not yet realized.
For example, I think a lot of people with anxiety and ADD would benefit from understanding this nagging problem. I know that once I understood more about my ADD, my panic attacks in malls disappeared. I finally understood that I simply couldn't handle the onslought (I need a spellchecker here) of stiumli. Thanks again for your comments. Terry As crazy as things are right now, here at the end of the American Empire, I'm surprised more people aren't suffering from the symptoms you describe. It's an anxious moment in history - of course people are feeling it.
Maybe more than 6 hours of sleep could help, like maybe 8? I'm calmest when I've had 9. Also bodywork of just about any variety helps: therapeutic massage, acupuncture, osteopathy, etc. And exercise, spending time outside, meditation, breath work. I do it all and still have my anxious moments. Best of luck to you. Thanks for the educational post. It is 2:49 a.m. and here I am reading this article ... incredible that it should be so on target. It goes to show you, I am not entirely crazy. I must save this article and read it and re-read it over and over. Thanks. Great posting.

I don't know if this is hypersensitivity disorder or not but has anyone of you ever experience just one quick breathing or your brain just fires out a signal with people's movements, like someone raising up their hands quickly? I don't know how to deal with these issues because they are really bothering me a lot. thanks.

I am 18 years old and sitting here at 2:35 when I can not sleep due to somone's music too loud above me! I love loud music but I can't sleep with anynoises going on around me that I can't control. Cotton balls give me the willies! I can't touch them because of the 'sound' they make! Another noise that bothers me is chewing! It drives me to the point of insainity to listen to anyone chew! I can't handle having a T.V. playing in another room while i am watching T.V. I was once diagonsed with ADHD when I was 11 but my parents don't believe that and think that it is all in my head! I don't know what I am supposed to do to function like a normal person since my parents refuse to allow me to take medication! I have even had a 'nearly court order' to take care of my ADHD problem! Can anyone please tell me what I can do!!!
Thanks!
