Rutgers University Post-Graduate Training: - Graduate of ADD Coach Academy (ADD Coach Training program) - Extensive coursework and training in assessment and treatment of Sensory Integration disorders.

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: I believe that ADHD coaching should be an integral part of the treatment plan for many individuals with ADHD. While medication and psychotherapy can address many symptoms, more is needed to address the practical day-to-day issues that arise in the life of an ADDer (such as goal setting, follow through, time management, organization, procrastination, etc.). For some individuals, ADHD Coaching is the “missing piece” that can actually help an ADDer improve his/her daily functioning.

Tip Of The Day:
The best place to be is in the moment! Using a small piece of paper and a pencil, check in with yourself and ask, "Where is my attention now? Is it in the past, present or future?" Notice where it is. Record your findings throughout the day. No judgement attached. Simply notice. How much time and energy do you spend in the past and future? This is where your inner critic lives. This is where the that inner critic keeps you in the status quo - stuck! By raising your awareness and shining its light on your inner critic, notice what happens - it will go away. It hates light! Realize that you are always at choice with every breath you take. And be at choice when you notice yourself in the past or future. What choice of action do you want to take to be in the moment? For starters, how about dropping your attention on your breath - noticing where it begins and ends and taking it all the way down to your belly. Breath intentionally for 3 or 4 breaths. What do you notice?

Second: Help clients become more aware of how their thoughts and beliefs shape their perception of the world and the mood and emotions they bring to their life experiences. Third: Coaching helps people examine the way they think, believe and act to create a space for new strategies, habits and possibilities to occur so the client can experience a greater level of satisfaction and peace.

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: When you know better (how to compensate) you will do better. One useful method is by use of metacognitive or conscious strategies. Sub parts for self-awareness and self-regulation include knowledge of self (beliefs, strengths, and weakness etc.), knowledge of the tasks requirements (sub- steps, effort needed, etc.) and choice of strategy (options) in relation to self and task characteristics (with evaluation). This is a wordy but dissected way to think about creating structure, self-discipline, and strategy sophistication to accomplish what you want.

Tip Of The Day:
Lists- learning in steps. 1. Make different kinds of lists as experiments to develop self awareness about what you can get done and the time it takes. Brainstorm "to do's" on and off for a week or two adding (write down) new ideas as they come to you. Use this brainstorming phase to focus on your awareness of your "to do's" needs, wants, goals (with commitment) and time usage toward these "to do"s. Time can be estimated, blocked off in a day timer, or drawn on a time line. The generated written lists are used as a reference in the next step. 2. Next, add structure with titles or categories rearranging what goes together (types, plans and goals). Try to rearrange your ideas while identifying priorities and time commitments. You may also want to talk through this step with someone. All lists are not necessarily for rigid use (unless that is your goal or responsibility). Lists are simply friendly reminders; not demanding autocrats. Include a list of fun activities, make one for long-range, and one for daily routine, (at the top put the must do's and the "smellies"- laundry, dishes, take out trash) etc. The rest of the lists depend on your personal responsibilities and goals. Some possible titles are: To be ready for work , Home Maintenance- inside and outside, Wish List, Menu Plans, Self Maintenance (health), To Take Camping, My strangest one is:To do during TV. Commercials (feed cats, get water, lock doors, open/throw away mail, organize laundry, lay out (or fix) tomorrow's clothes, turn off lights, phone). Duplication is ok now until you use this reference to adopt routines or patterns, one at a time. 3. Practice using some lists a couple of weeks. Focus on your time usage for tasks as you try out lists. What habits do you all ready have? What new habits will make your life easier? 4. Next, evaluate these sub-steps- (identify to do's, give lists titles and arrange, adopt routines or list usage). What works? What needs improvements? Where did time get wasted? What was forgotten? What can be eliminated? Using a metacognitive format the evaluation includes: What were my strengths and weakness? What did I need to do to accomplish the task of making lists and organizing my time? What was accomplished and why? What strategies do I need to try or do? Make adjustments as needed. Keep trying out more list and combine, rearrange, and monitor. Make some into routines or patterns you do on the same day at the same time. Now you're ready to re-customize your planner or electronic organizer.

Professional Background: After 10 years of balancing the responsibilities of high school & part-time college teaching to the masses, I began to develop an affinity for working more 1-on-1 with those experiencing special educational challenges. I took courses on the brain and learning styles through UC Irvine's Gifted Learning Program. But it was at the Learning Brain Expo in January, 2007 that my sense of mission began to crystallize. It was there, after listening to Daniel Amen and other learning and ADD specialists speak, that I felt called to enroll in the ADD Coaching Academy. After successfully completing this one year specialized internationally accredited coaching program and earning an ACG designation as an ADD Coach Academy Graduate, I began to coach both teens and adults one-on-one. My coaching training and experience has given me the tools to address the special challenges that ADD carries, such as learning to focus on strengths versus negative thought patterns, improving organization, academic performance and life skills for work and healthy relationships.

Associations: ADD Coach Academy, JensenLearning, California Teachers Assoc., National Educ. Assoc., American Public Health Assoc.

Educational Background: I have a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from UC Irvine and Masters Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology from San Diego State University. Additionally, I have a secondary level, grade 7-12, California teaching credential from San Diego State University in the Biological Sciences and supplemental credentials in chemistry and health.

Work Experience: After earning my Master's, I took on a Senior Health Analyst role for Columbia Healthcare, a PPO company, for 1 year in Los Angeles in 1995. As fruitful and as challenging as these experiences were, I realized that my heart lay in teaching. In 1996 I decided to go into teaching full time. By the fall of 1997 I was teaching high school science at the Capistrano Unified School District in Orange County where I have remained for the past 12 years. I now teach Biology, Health, & General Science full-time at Tesoro High School in Rancho Santa Margarita California. Seeking yet more educational challenges I became an adjunct faculty member for National University in 2001, and have since taught classroom management courses as well as an online health course for professional educators.

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: Over 12 years of high school teaching, I have now seen so many teens struggle with focus and organization issues. 504 education plans typically provide simple learning accommodations to help kids get through school, but don't offer teachers any practical intervention tools to actually change the attitude, behavior patterns, and negative beliefs teens have about learning. While individualizing instruction with 35+ kids to a science class and no time is difficult, I have been able to demonstrate that coaching strategies can work with much success. With one student, John, it was having him, after checking in, run around the lunch quad for 2 minutes to boost blood flow and serotonin levels in the brain through exercise to help him calm down and focus. With another student, who was more visual and interested in computers, it was having him do a powerpoint presentation as an alternative to homework he wouldn't complete anyway. In this case it was utilizing his best learning style in combination with something he was already interested in. In general, I am always striving to address learning needs with the brain in mind. In addition to putting the right supports in place for the individual that can match their learning style and help balance brain chemistry, I believe it is also important to establish reward & reminder systems and other consistent strategies in the home environment. Therefore, if my client is a child with ADD, I spend almost equal time working with parents to educate them and develop a plan to remove certain barriers and provide the needed structure at home. This balanced approach of working with the individual and parents has lead to much success for my clients.

Personal Quote: "If you ask for something, you might just get it." When I discovered the ADD Coaching Academy, where I received year long training as a coach, I gained a thorough understanding of the barriers that get in the way with ADD and how to mediate them. I learned that maintaining healthy boundaries in my life and focusing more on my strengths relieved me from dwelling on negative thoughts during conversation and reading, and how to refine my sleep patterns when the tendency for imbalance is still there. I saw how other coaches in training were able to shift negative beliefs they held about their intelligence, professional abilities, talents, money management, and asking for what they really want from life. Gaining a better handle on our own ADD through the process of our training, has made my colleagues and I better coaches, better people, and happier.

Personal Characteristics: After losing a leg due to a bone tumor and relearning to walk with a prosthesis at the age of 7, I am no stranger to adversity and I am well qualified to inspire those who are confronted with ADD and physical disability to face those challenges successfully. When I am not busy teaching or coaching, I spend time with my wife, Angela & teenage daughter, Sheineh, and enjoy performing as a singer/songwriter/guitarist, woodworking, traveling, snow skiing, cycling, swimming, kayaking, & exploring nature.

Additional Information: Now, even if you are now an adult and at a point in life where you are done with your education and its challenges, your ADD still interferes with your relationships and work success. This is where I think coaches can clarify patterns, put supports and systems in place, and provide tools to help you actualize your potential. Additionally, I utilize my experience as an amputee to coach individuals facing adversity. Don't be afraid to ask for support; a coach can help facilitate your climb.

Tip Of The Day:
ADD, to put it simplistically, is a challenge of brain stimulation and interest. I see individuals who either have difficulty filtering out incoming information or stimuli which makes them distractable or they can't inhibit their outgoing responses to stimuli which makes them impulsive or hyper. The more boring a task is the harder it will be for an individual with ADD to filter out distractions in their environment, but when they are really interested in something, they can focus. Always, if possible I look for ways to combine a challenge area with an interest/strength area. If the challenge is maintaining focus on a boring task like doing the dishes or doing repetitive math problems and I know the ADD individual is very auditory and likes music, I will suggest they wear headphones and listen to music without words. The music increases their interest level, effectively blocks out distractions in their environment, and improves their ability to maintain focus on an otherwise boring task.

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: The Davis Center uses sound-based therapy to make change with how the person receives and uses the vibrations of sound received from the environment around them. Sound subtly impacts how we attend, stay focused, how we listen, and how we feel. We repattern the energy of the person so that they are better able to function in their daily activities. We use The Davis Model of Sound Intervention. Each person must first receive a diagnostic evaluation that determines if, when, how long, and in what order any or all of the many different sound-based therapies can be appropriately applied. We have helped people of all ages with AD/HD and other disabilities.

Personal Characteristics: Help people gain momentum in work and life, unlock hidden strengths, cut through fog and FOCUS on viable options. Provide STRUCTURE and PRIORITIZE choices, develop SKILLS and STRATEGIES to cope with challenges of work/life. Compassionate and tenacious. Laser beam focus on what is important to you. I really do believe that I must be the change I wish to see in the world.(adapted from Gandhi's quote)

Additional Information: Over 20 years of experience in coaching, career management, human resources, and facilitation. Work with ADHD executives, professionals and college students as a catalyst and coach. Together we create a development plan which connects the present with the future in ways never imagined before. I have helped many clients become aware of their own powersource and learn new tools that they have resisted in the past. (i.e. planning, prioritizing, and communicating with people in more intentional ways.) The purpose is to create self-sufficiency and fulfillment by living and working more purposefully.

Tip Of The Day:
Create a Board of Directors for your life: different people to support and stretch you emotionally, physically, intellectually and spiritually. Find people who can help you to let go of the past, to "say no" to what gets in the way, and to "say yes" to what you really need.

Tip Of The Day:
Pull your earlobe when you hear yourself say the words "I should". Change "I should" to "I want to" and repeat the sentence. Notice your experience. Is it true? DO you want to? If the answer is yes, go for it. If the answer is no, ask yourself if you can handle the consequence of saying no. This little tip is sure to quiet down the monster of your mind, a.k.a., your "gremlin"!

Tip Of The Day:
When you say 'I have ADD', what do you mean? You only need 6 of the possible 18 characteristics to qualify as having ADHD. That means that there are 64 possible types of ADHD. If you take into consideration the 8+ possible co-morbid disorders, there are over 6,000 possible variations of ADHD. That means that in a room of 6,000 people, they could each have ADHD and each be entirely different. So, when you say ?I have ADHD? you are not being very specific. There are no strategies for ?ADHD?. There are no skill sets to learn for ?ADHD?. But there are strategies to learn about how to get and stay organized. There are skills to learn about how to stay focused. The details of your life are what is important. Master the details. Become an expert on the details of your particular version of ADHD. That is the direction wherein lies success.

Work Experience: I’ve owned three businesses I’ve started, taught meditation, (I teach my clients relaxation techniques), was a master salesman in an international organization, and have had my private coaching practice since 1999.

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: I believe that within every client there is a field of all possibilities where there are “hidden treasures” as Ned Hallowell puts it, that can be found and exploited to find a life that allows every client to fulfill his or her full potential and find happiness. I believe that a team approach with clients and other applicable team members such as family, doctors, therapists, work or school people, can produce the best benefit.

Personal Quote: "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate; Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us." Marianne Williamson

Personal Characteristics: Humor, positive view of ADHD and focus on emphasizing talents not dwelling on failure, great at communicating ideas via phone, paint mental pictures well for teaching analogies, focusing on clients major modalities, diagnosed late in life so I self-taught many accommodations and know it can be done.

Additional Information: I know that happiness can never be attained as long as you are comparing yourself to others. Finding your special talents and focusing on using them to your full potential will bring you the greatest happiness in life no matter what is going on around you. That is what I try to help my clients find in coaching and help them become "self-referring" when judging their success.

Tip Of The Day:
: Find “your best way” and do it consistently. For example: I’ve found that I forget to go all the places on my list when running errands. My way to solve this was to put all errands on a sticky note and place it next to my speedometer over the gauges in my car. That way, every time I get back in the car I can mark off my stop and see the next one. Also, I’m reminded as I drive and don’t forget a stop from the distractions of driving.

Additional Information: I am passionate about the unique strengths and talents each individual possesses and believe that when these strengths and talents are identified and harnessed, everyone is capable of achieving more fulfillment and success.

Tip Of The Day:
Create a master list of all your "to-do`s". You may want to keep small pads of paper and a pen handy--in the kitchen, at your bedside, etc. so that you can jot down thoughts as they enter your mind--that way you don`t have to worry about forgetting them. Establish a habit of regularly transferring these notes to the master list (maybe every evening or morning--whatever makes sense for you). Perhaps keeping a mini-recorder handy instead of paper to record your thoughts and ideas might work better for you, particularly in your car--it`s much safer while driving! Regularly review your master list to redefine what is most important. Where does an item fit in the big picture of what you want to accomplish? How necessary is this activity? How does it affect other activities? With the master list, plan your day, your week, in advance using a calendar, planner or palm pilot. What amount of time do you estimate you need to accomplish the activity (add 10 minutes)? Break the most demanding tasks into shorter blocks of time. Check to see where these blocks of time fit in your schedule. Choose the time of day that is best for you for a specific type of activity---for example: if you concentrate better in the afternoon, schedule activities that require more focus in the afternoon. Explore various ways of setting your schedule; as you learn what does and doesn`t work, continue to make adjustments until you find the method that works best for you, not someone else!

Coaching formats: Phone, In Person

Additional Information: Coaching is the perfect match for the highly motivated individual with ADD. The coach-client partnership provides encouragement, accountability, and a positive environment in which ADD is demystified. The client must be committed to action, and the coach helps to develop systems and strategies that work with the client’s ADD. It is a unique opportunity to learn how to reach one’s goals.

Tip Of The Day:
What`s the very next step? Often when an ADD client gets stuck, he or she sees the goal, but the steps on the way have collapsed into one pile. This client has no idea how to proceed. By mapping out all of the tiny and larger steps involved, frustration dissolves. Reaching this goal is no longer a mystery!

Personal Characteristics: Resourceful, Unstoppable, Intuitive, F-U-N-N-Y!

Additional Information: 7 consecutive days of your everyday life. Don't pick a week that: You are going out of town for 3 of the days. You have out of town guests coming in. You have your child's week long baseball playoff games. You have some sort of surgery scheduled. Ok, so now the next step is for you to get set up with Addconsults.com, they will pass along my cell phone number to you. Then call me. -Don't wait for the "perfect moment" to call. -Don't wait two days so that you can practice what you are going to say (that's your ADD by the way, hmmm?). All we are doing is saying hello and setting up our first call, painless. If I don't pick up, leave me a voice mail with your name and number. When we connect, we will schedule our first call (2 hours). Then after our first call, it's whatever it takes. If it takes us 22 calls, 16 emails, 3 faxes, and text messaging to reach what we have set out to do, then that's what we'll do. And I'll tell you why. See, part of our first call we'll make this really nice schedule for the following 7 days. We'll even put in buffer time until we get a better grip on how long tasks actually take, and all that good stuff. Then we'll hang up after our first call with a challenging, yet obtainable schedule for the next week. Then what happens? "Life happens" .....your car breaks down, you have to pick up a sick child from school, the hot water heater takes a dive, things pop up, plans get changed ..... So what happens to our game plan? The one that was oh so beautiful on paper? It goes right out the window, no matter how well it's structured. I promise you that within these 7 days we will be reprioritizing our initial draft.....at least once, and that's if we're lucky! This is the most crucial time, a time when we "derail". When things get out of wacky, when things don't go as planned, stress begins to creep in, the anxiety and guilt come rushing back, then we derail....you know the drill. As your coach, I will support you through the derailing as they happen, not try to rummage through the wreckage long after the crash. This is what coaching is, the ladder is hindsight. That said, you and I will be in very close communication.

Associations: ADDA and CHADD

Educational Background: BS Keuka College, Keuka Park, NY MS in Health Psychology, Walden University Master Practitioner of Neurolinguistic Programming

Work Experience: 15 years coaching adults with AD/HD 5 years training AD/HD Coaches

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: AD/HD coaching is a designed partnership between a coach and a client for the purpose of fostering life skills that enable the client to successfully cope with ADHD. As your coach, I am the catalyst that facilitates that process.

Languages Spoken: English

Types of Clients: Adults, Teens, College Students, Business owners/Executives, Professionals, Entrepreneurs, Artists
Women and Men working on thier PhD's and stay-at-home Dads and Moms

Coaching formats: Phone, In Person, Email

Personal Characteristics: Each day I strive to: Look for the good in others. Be grateful. Have a sense of humor. Believe in myself and those around me. Avoid the word "failure" (I use "outcome" instead). Be flexible. Recognize and celebrate everyone's uniqueness. Always see the glass half full.

Additional Information: Two of my very first clients, as a personal performance coach, told me they had something called AD/HD. In an effort to be the best coach I could be for these individuals, I began to read as much as I could about Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and attend as many workshops as I found available, which weren?t many. Both these individuals challenged my skills as a coach time and time again, and it was from them, I learned the most. I have coached many ADDers since then, and find it still just as challenging and rewarding. They are my favorite clients. They are energetic, impulsive, creative, intuitive, fun, stubborn, fearful, zany, loud, quiet, restless, courageous, and more. They are their finger prints, and I love them all. When I first began coaching, I knew without a doubt, that my fullest potential would be in helping others discover theirs. I now know that it is my ADDers, who help me discover mine. I now train others how to be the best AD/HD Coaches they can be.

Tip Of The Day:
Keep it simple.

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: As an ADHD Adult you've likely been using the wrong "Instruction Manual" meant for the average human. You need to craft your own "Instruction Manual" based on your strengths and your way of doing things. Tip Of The Day:
Overcome perfectionism by 1) identifying what needs to be completed; 2) what's required for it to be 80% perfect; 3) how long it will take to get there; and 4) setting a timer to energize your brain to complete it in the time set to get it 80% perfect.

In addition to my private counseling practice I have presented numerous workshops and weekend courses dealing with personal growth, relationships, grief, parenting, anger management and "Stepping into Your Future". You can access my January 2008 telecourse on "Moving On: Life after an ADHD Diagnosis" at www.addclasses.com.

Associations: ADDA (Attention Deficit Disorder Association), NBCC (National Board Certified Counselors)

Educational Background: I earned my M.A. in Community Mental Health Counseling; my M.Ed. in Reading Education; and my B.S. in Elementary Education. I've taken extensive continuing education coursework specializing in attention deficit disorder and related conditions (one of my favorite courses being Dr. Ratey’s "Harnessing the Psychiatric Benefits of Exercise"). I earned my certification and instructed the dynamic weekend personal growth course "Understanding Yourself and Others" and the parenting course "Redirecting Children's Behavior".

Work Experience: I have worked in private practice counseling individuals, couples, families, and groups; presented workshops and professional inservices; and now focus my skills on coaching individuals with ADD. I interned as a counselor with the Family Research and Guidance Center and coordinated an award winner children's program in Orlando public schools for Hospice of the Comforter. Prior to working in the personal growth field, I worked as a teacher for 12 years. I have also worked as a guidance counselor and homeschooled my own daughter through second grade.

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: My goal is to enable parents, teachers and individuals with AD/HD to identify and build on their unique strengths. I focus on helping individuals develop a healthy sense of self by supporting an understanding of how ADD impacts their lives and on developing and implementing appropriate strategies to help them achieve their goals.

Personal Quote: Stimulation is the key to waking up and mobilizing the ADD brain -- any kind will help -- aerobic exercise, a passionate interest, social connections, music, as well as medication.

Personal Characteristics: I'm accepting, encouraging, creative and persistent -- if I don't know an answer, I'm good at researching it and identifying helpful resources and information and helping design a plan to fit an individual's unique needs.

Additional Information: I find that my background as a counselor, educator, and personal growth instructor, in addition to my specific training and experience in the area of ADD, provide me with valuable tools to use when partnering with my clients in developing and implementing effective strategies for change. I've found that coaching is a very effective medium for helping ADDers implement the changes they desire to build the life they want.

Tip Of The Day:
Identifying and building on your unique strengths will enable you to construct a solid foundation on which to build your dreams. As an ADDer, finding your passion provides the focus, stimulation, and motivation necessary to succeed.

Associations: ADDA, ACO, NAPO,

Educational Background: Harris Girls School, England Onslow College, New Zealand

Work Experience: Since leaving England as a young woman I have lived in Australia and New Zealand during which time I gained 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur and corporate executive. I have set up and run a variety of businesses internationally, both for myself and as a consultant. And enjoyed corporate roles working in public relations, banking, travel and the film and television industry. I moved to the USA eleven years ago and established my own Professional Organizing firm working with hundreds of clients, many with ADHD; and gained government contracts to work with Adult Protective Services social workers, and their clients. This hands-on experience combined with 5 years of study culminating in my graduation from two prestigious coaching institutions; Coachville and the ADD Coaches Academy, has equipped me to be a compassionate and highly skilled ADHD life management coach. On a more personal note my husband has ADHD so I live with this syndrome on a daily basis. He has helped me to understand on a gut level basis the paradox of ADD – the great gifts it gives and the roadblocks it can create in relationships. Through trial and error of many strategies we have crafted our marriage to be a strong, respectful, fun place we enjoy and relax in.

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: If the client is 100% committed to the process of coaching and is matched with a dedicated, well trained and experienced ADHD coach then the sky is the limit!!

Languages Spoken: english

Personal Characteristics: PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS I believe I am honest, kind, compassionate, intelligent, creative, hard working and wise; with a great sense of humor! I love my clients, and the work we do together, so I bring a lot of energy to the process.

Additional Information: Always happy to have a chat about your specific situation and how coaching works in general and could work for you. Email or phone me to set up a mutually agreeable time...look forward to talking soon.

Tip Of The Day:
Install a pause button. Many ADDers don't have one naturally so need to create and install their own. But easier said then done; however with practice you can do it. Think of linking the 'installing' with several common actions you do many times a day; answering the phone, pouring a cup of coffee or drinking a glass of water, leaving a room, getting in or out of a car. Now, before you do the action 'pause' for the slow count of five. Once you have integrated the habit use it consciously before you say yes to a request, before you buy that new gizmo, before you respond with anger, before you volunteer, before you comment on that ugly dress, before you sign on that dotted line...you get the idea. Use it often and it will become a permanent part of your operating system. Use it even when you dont need to, to get into the habit. Building mini pauses into your day will allow you to choose more consciously and give you more control.

Tip Of The Day:
"Flip the script!! Anything one percieves to be a "problem" with ADD can be re-framed to become an asset. Example? ADDer's are seen as non logical, or non- linear thinkers. This same non-linear process is a "boon" to the brains' creative process. The ADDers will think in a circular manner but when he/she eventually comes back to the starting place it is with great ideas, insights and energy. This "thinking outside the box" is actually the creative cauldron necessary for great break-throughs in intellectual and scientific thought. ADDer's have this ability in abundance because they are non-linear thinkers.

That way, we are able to co-create strategies that will work uniquely for you as an individual. ADD Coaching helps you sort out questions about yourself, and what is "normal." You may have lost self-esteem because you`ve become convinced there is something wrong with you. Working with me helps you make sense of your seemingly inexplicable behavior, so that you can develop workable new habits.

Personal Characteristics: Creative, intuitive, practical, flexible, accepting. I combine a business brain and experience with a creative approach, leading to a broader range of solutions and strategies.

Additional Information: My ideal client is someone who wants to learn to THRIVE with ADD, not simply to survive with it. Tip Of The Day:
Do, dump or delegate. Ruthlessly examining the assumptions you operate under regarding what you "should" or "must" do will usually bring surprises and breakthroughs. There are probably many tasks that someone else could help with, or that could be dropped altogether.

Because of watching her get her hopes dashed and feelings hurt, I had no choice but to become a champion for the cause. My daughter is , thank God, going strong, reaching for the stars and now I am helping others. She has made me the successful Coach I am today.

Educational Background: I have a BA, Psychology, Georgia State University Summa Cum Laude; MA, Clinical Child and Family Psychology, Georgia State University Doctoral studies, Cognitive-Developmental Psychology, Emory University

Work Experience: I have eighteen years experience in counseling, assessment, coaching, and consulting. I've served as adjunct faculty for Georgia State University, Oglethorpe University and have developed and taught classes for Coachville and the Graduate School of Coaching. Now I facilitate workshops and speak about ADD....last year I was a presenter at the 2004 ADDA National Conference - - that was really great! I enjoy working with ADD adults, parents of ADHD children and teens, and college students. Author of "Homework 101" in September, 2004 issue of Additude Magazine and many ADD articles.

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: Each of us has gifts, strengths, talents, and things we are passionate about or enjoy very much. It's so easy to forget that when you have ADD. We tend to pay more attention to what we don't do well, what we think we need to improve in, what is wrong and how badly we feel about what we cannot do or have not done. But, by learning compensating strategies and re-programming our thinking to focus on what we CAN do, we can have a fulfilling and happy life.

Personal Quote: "Everything in life boils down to CHOICE. Be aware of your choices. Choose to be happy."

Personal Characteristics: Mature, very experienced and knowledgeable; good at providing people with a more positive and realistic perspective. I'm am intuitive person and "get" people very easily. It feels easy to me to connect with and understand people (especially ADHD/ADDers, being one myself.) Like you, I've had my ups and downs in life. But I choose to feel optimistic and positive. I sincerely enjoy helping people tackle the challenges of ADHD. Another thing you might want to know about me is that I'm creative - in thinking, problem solving and in the arts.

Additional Information: ADHD presents challenges but everything can be solved; with the right strategies, techniques, and support, your life can be much better. In my work with ADDults, I help them create an ADHD-friendly life. We figure out how you can manage your stress, prioritize, get things done, etc. Just because you haven't been able to do this yet doesn't mean you can't! You've done the best you could up 'til now, and now you are ready to find a way to do better. I work with ADD women and men on career and business issues, personal issues, and self esteem. I also help parents of ADHD kids learn positive parenting skills. ADHD parents of ADHD kids really need support and also to learn how to provide both themselves and their child with structure and organization.

Tip Of The Day:
Forget about being perfect or having things be perfect. Perfection paralyzes! In coaching we set high yet realistic standards --- it frees you to enjoy life and do things and not worry so much about making things perfect. Stay positive. Having a positive mindset is such a boost for anyone but especially for ADDers. And don't let negative people and comments pull you down. Make up your mind to keep away from "balloon-busters" - those people who like to "shoot you down." Instead, hang around people who make you feel great and believe you have greatness in you.

Professional Background: I coach motivated, talented, AD/HD adults - professional & business people, women at home - as well as high school, college, graduate, and professional students who are operating in the fast-paced world of frequently highly competitive schools. Even gifted students with ADHD may falter in the face of the increasingly complex demands of high school, and lack of structure, endless distractions, and demanding workload that are a part of college life. The executive function impairments common to adults with ADHD, especially the difficulties in beginning, sustaining, and completing work tasks, may present near-insurmountable obstacles to the academic success of ADHD students. Russell Barkley's characterization of ADHD as "not a disorder of not knowing what to do, but of not doing what you know," is lethally accurate for students with ADHD, and can be as bewildering for them as it is frustrating. A partnership with a coach can go a long way toward helping ADHD students stay on track and move forward, while at the same time offering them the opportunity to learn about their own strengths, preferences, learning styles, and passions. I have been coaching professionally since 1996. I received my fundamental coaching training at the Coaches Training Institute, in San Rafael, CA, from which I also received professional coaching certification in July, 2003. Additional training in specifically ADD coaching has come from my attendance at numerous workshops and seminars offered by such leaders in this field as Nancy Ratey, Sue Coleman, and many others; extensive reading and keeping up with current research in both ADHD and coaching; and years of experience in working with AD/HD college students. In the fall of 2007, I also completed training with Jodi Sleeper-Triplett in coaching younger clients, including middle and high school students. I am a Senior Certified AD/HD Coach through IAAC, the Institute for the Advancement of AD/HD Coaching.

Associations: American Coaching Association, CHADD, ADDA, International Coach Federation, National Center for the Study of Gender Issues & ADHD (NCGIADD)

Educational Background: B.A. Duke University B.S.Ed University of Kansas

Work Experience: I have an extensive background in education, including many years as a classroom teacher and, from 1990 to 2006, as a learning strategies instructor at the Duke University Academic Resource Center, where I also served as an academic advisor, and ADD coach. I now maintain a fulltime private coaching practice.

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: ADD coaching puts bones in your wings. People come to a coach because, somewhere in their life, they want to fly. They have the wings: the desire, the capability. What they lack is structure to make it happen. They are continually buffeted by circumstance, or they just float. The coaching process can provide this structure. Goals structure movement by directing it; accountability structures action by creating habit; concrete tools such as calendars and planners can structure time. Even the support of the coach is a structure, a constant to count on as the client swings out into unfamiliar territory to try doing things a different way. They may look the same, but floating is not flying. Flying is an intentional act. Bones in your wings will allow you to soar. And soaring is a choice.

Personal Characteristics: Spacious, intuitive, given to gallows humor. Poet, swimmer, mother of 2 grown daughters. Loves music, especially rock, folk, opera. Have too many cats.

Tip Of The Day:
Watch out for "should," "ought," "really need to." These are statements of wishfulness masquerading as intention: they suck away purpose. What WILL you do?

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO POTENTIATE!i.e. Make the most out of who you are! Going it alone can be pretty difficult at times. Reaching out and asking for guidance and help can make a huge difference in your life. Mental road-blocks and old hurts can keep you frozen in place.Psychotherapy and/or coaching offer support, skills , insights and a brand new chance to take another look in that mirror...together! Coping with ADD/ADHD and other learning differences can distort what we see when we look at ourselves. As a psychotherapist/coach, we will carefully look in those places that you may not have noticed about yourself, or have long forgotten! Restoring hope and turning the light on once again... That's what our journey will involve!

Personal Quote: Set a goal and be perseverant to accomplish it, otherwise you`re floating on an ocean without direction. (unknown)

Personal Characteristics: Compassionate, honest, accepting, organized, creative, sensible, dependable, understanding, down-to-earth, willing to share personal experiences with ADD. Recent client comment: MJ not only talks the talk but she walks the walk.

Tip Of The Day:
For the client who has difficulty staying with a task, I encourage them to first block out an amount of time to work on the task (i.e., 15 minutes to clean out a drawer, 30 minutes to dust and straighten a room, 60 minutes to work on term paper). Then I suggest they set a timer for that amount of time and try to stay focused on that task alone until the timer goes off. During this block of time the client can keep a writing pad and pen nearby to jot down any intruding thoughts that may interfere with what they are doing. Writing things down as they come up helps the client clear their mind and stay focused on the present task, rather than getting up or leaving the room several times to do other things. This also allows them to be more comfortable with staying focused on one thing at a time without the fear of forgetting something else that comes to mind. Another helpful hint is to have a laundry basket or box handy as a place to put items that belong somewhere else. This helps to keep the client in the room they are working on and to wait until the timer goes off to return the items to other parts of the house where they belong.

Ari Petroff, ACG, ADD/ADHD Coach

Toronto,  Ontario  CANADA

Visit Website  Send E-Mail

Location: Ontario, CANADA

Professional Background: Working with clients since August 2006. Received official certification in January 2008 from the ADD Coaching Academy.

Associations: ADDCA, ADDA

Educational Background: Carleton University (Ottawa, Ontario) - (BA) Psychology ADD Coaching Academy-ACG certification from the first ICF endorsed ADD Coach Training Program in the world.

Work Experience: Prior to coaching, I was diagnosed with ADD in 2001. Using the next few years to do some personal reflection on this new found awareness (which was a gem), I decided to pursue this area of helping others. This was something I wanted to do years earlier when I went to University and studied psychology, yet didn't follow through with (of course never realizing till years later that my ADD was the major barrier in the way of me following through). For the detailed bio, please visit my company website at: http://www.thecoachingaddvantage.org/coach_bio

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: Most ADD'ers have spent their entire life under the impression that it is a negative condition. This is understandable since we only hear about the negative side to ADD (especially in the media), so those who are diagnosed immediately lean towards the negative aspects and feel that something's wrong with them. They tend to devote their energy on making their weaknesses stronger rather than investing their time & energy towards areas that empower them. From working from areas of strength, my ADD clients have experienced that by making some small adjustments, and establishing a solid strategy, their ADD is actually the greatest tool they have always had, yet never paid attention to. All they needed was the will to do so, and the desire to take action and make things happen.

Languages Spoken: English

Fee: $315/month for 4x45 minute sessions (online payment accepted or pay by check) OR Call to dicuss other options

Types of Clients: Adults, Children, Teens, College Students, Business owners/Executives, Professionals, Entrepreneurs
Families with ADD members

Coaching formats: Phone, Email
Regular email communication during the week between our calls. For those who want to meet in person, I'm happy to do so prior to our work together. However all "coaching" is done via telephone.

Personal Quote: "Once you DECIDE to make changes and take action, you'll soon realize that your ADD can be your greatest asset instead of the obstacle you thought it was" (Ari Petroff) "By focusing your energy on fixing an area of weakness is similar to trying to polish a turd" (Roger DeWitt) "I'm successful at everything I do because I demand more from myself than anyone else could ever expect" (Julius "Dr.J" Erving)

Additional Information: Coaching is not to be confused with Psychotherapy. It is a completely different profession. However the process can be therapeutic. Coaching is about taking action by establishing an effective strategy that's catered to your needs, not a generic plan where "one size fits all." Even though it is "work", it doesn't have to feel that way. Keep it loose, fun, and clients tend to get results faster when they're enjoying the process.

Tip Of The Day:
Live in "action" instead of "reaction"; those who live in action strive for what's possible, those in reaction tend to focus on what is getting in the way.

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: If someone can't keep track of the threads, they can't easily weave the whole cloth into the desired pattern -- coaching/organizing provides support and methodology for "tracking the threads" until you "weave" the desired whole into the life you want.

Additional Information: Coaching is an investment in yourself. It takes your desire for change, your commitment and your effort. I welcome the opportunity to work with those of you who are ready to participate fully in creating a new life for yourself.

Tip Of The Day:
Move the "finish line." If you have difficulty completing a task to the "clean up the project and put things away" end -- move the finish line. Decide at the outset where that will be -- what is "finished" going to look like? Until you cross that final line, it`s not over!

Work Experience: ADHD coach since 1997; previous work experience as a teacher (in the US and in Laos),a community volunteer, a salesperson, an administrative associate, and a flight attendant. I am a wife, a mother of four and a grandmother of twelve.

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: The name of my company sums it up... Attending Difference Dilemma - Unlimited Potential. I believe ADHD is a gift, however like other gifts, challenges come with the gift. One of the challenges is how to sucessfully live in a world that is not designed for those of us who have ADHD, i.e. in a linear world when we do not usually process in a linear fashion. I personally do not have a deficit of attention, I have a deficit of filters - I attend to everything and can not filter out all the things that do not pertain to the task at hand. I am not broken...I am perfect just as I am and I have developed skills that complement who I am and allow my gifts to be used. I have created systems, uniquely designed for the way my brain processes information, to help me successfully navigate the world. The more I learn about me, the better me I can be. I coach from this same perspective...the more my clients learn about themselves, the better selves they can be. That is my job, as a coach, to help my clients connect with themselves and honor the wonderful persons they are.

Work Experience: Linda S. Anderson, M.A., M.C.C. began her business, Getting Clear, in 1994 integrating over twenty-five years of experience as a teacher, administrator, consultant and professional organizer. Today, she utilizes all of those skills in her coaching and works with ADHD professionals in a wide variety of careers both in the U.S. and abroad. She regularly presents at national and regional conferences and conducts trainings for professionals. Linda is a dedicated board member of the Attention Deficit Disorder Association and a co-founder the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers. Among various articles and tapes, she has written: “The Body Double,” “Could This Be Your Patient?” and “Getting Clear And Organizing What’s Left.” She is a contributing author to the book, "Intentional Change" and a featured coach in the video, "Me, My ADD Coach and I."

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: From ten years of experience in working with ADHD clients, I know that one of my sacred roles in the coaching relationship is to listen for what the client is doing right and to begin there. It is hard to accept what is going right when one has chosen to face a lifetime of boggles and challenges. If it’s just one person, alone, on a journey toward change, attention can get over-focused on what seems to not be working, and a destructive nagging inner critic can take hold. In the coaching partnership, there is a mutual holding of purpose, goals, choice, discovery and possibility. There is synergy in the partnership, and magic, greater than the sum of just one plus one. Identifying goals and needs, problem-solving, setting up supportive systems and planning doable next action steps is the everyday stuff of coaching. Learning how one learns best and how one makes change is a revealing and rewarding part of the journey. Learning about ADD from every perspective, and connecting to other people’s stories, how they as individuals with ADD have successfully navigated change, will always be an important part of the journey. At the very least, as a coach, I am a body double. I travel alongside my client, holding what he or she holds dearest and best, along with what has been kept secret and hidden. I have been entrusted to share in the journey. And while we travel together, discovering, de-boggling, identifying resources, and trying out new approaches, we will laugh. There may be true and deep moments of sadness, regret, or pain shared, but we will always laugh.

Personal Quote: Epictetus – `We are disturbed not by what happens to us, but by our thoughts about what happens.` `It’s all invented, anyway, so we might as well invent a story or a framework of meaning that enhances our quality of life and the life around us.` From The Art Of Possibility, by Rosamund Stone Zander and Benjamin Zander

Personal Characteristics: Warm, friendly, and funny (this is beginning to sound like a personal ad,) I am deeply committed to working in the field of ADHD and coaching. I didn’t choose it. It chose me. I chose to learn about the brain, about how people with difficulties accomplished significant change, and the rest followed. I have a pretty good sense of humor and an abundance of creativity. I listen deeply. I am a real good sorter and container (verb). There are lots of ways to sort out the stuff of life, the tangible and intangible. I’m always learning more. I have an ability to keep balance in the middle of storm, chaos, uncertainty, and distraction. I do not haveADD, but it is all around me. I exercise. I learned how to do this later in life, and I am proud of that. I do a very simple short meditation called Tonglen. I have two beautiful girls, 20 and 22, an artist (ADD) husband and two handsome Maine coon cats. I have compassion and a certain degree of wisdom, which comes with age and life challenges met. P.S. I hope all this won’t go on my gravestone.

Additional Information: A thoughtful guiding question from the book, The Art of Possibility: `What assumption am I making, That I’m not aware I’m making, That gives me what I see?`

Tip Of The Day:
Life is a series of steps or journeys. We are constantly getting clear. Let go of what you can let go of - stuff that doesn’t need to be in your space, negative memories and worries, ideas centered around `should` or `must,` and `what if,` and enjoy what’s left. Make sure that what’s left really matters, that it feels, tastes, sounds, smells, looks and affects your life positively.

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: For me, welcoming ADD into your life comes in three stages:

1) The "omigosh, I have ADD" phase

This is when I coach on strategies that help you get to work on time, balance your checkbook, sort the mail every week vs every six months! It's the "tips and tricks" phase and often comes in tandem with medication management or other ADD treatment.

2) The "OK, so I have ADD, but I like myself even with a messy house" phase

This is all about self acceptance. I coach on coming to grips with the fact that ADD isn't going away, but that you are a worthwhile and magnificent woman in spite of -- or because of -- your ADD. And who needs a spotless house anyway??

3) The "All those years of dealing with my ADD buried my deepest dreams - now I want them BACK (if I could just remember what they were?)" phase.

This is my favorite phase. I coach women to dig deeper, to unlock their purpose and passion so they can live the lives they were always meant to live. I offer women's weekend retreats as well as coaching sessions in this phase.

You know, it IS different for ADHD women - we are often more sensitive, we feel pain and pleasure more intensely, we get frustrated more easily. But we rarely give up.

That tenacity is the stronghold for ADD women. Even when my clients get discouraged, I know it's only temporary - that's one reason I've dubbed my coaching technique "The Encouragement Model."

I had a coach who told me once "You need more encouragement than any other client I've ever coached!" At the time, I was devastated - embarrassed that I was so needy.

Now I know that my ADD is the root of that need for constant encouragement. So I make sure I give it to my clients again and again and again.

The world needs the energy, creativity and healing of every single woman with ADD. So don't hide your light a minute longer - get out there and SHINE!

Personal Quote: Why are you trying to fit in when you were born to stand out?

Personal Characteristics: Enthusiastic, 100% upbeat, honest, willing to ask the tough questions, encouraging, supportive, direct, tender, generous, passionate, forgiving, ADD-ish!

Additional Information: It's different for ADHD women ...all ADDivas (pronounced a-dee-deeva-s) are born to be extraordinary. But in the chaos of ADD, it's easy to forget just how wonderful you are. ADD coaching is more than getting your files organized. It's about getting your LIFE in alignment with Who You Really Are. You CAN trust yourself to soar ... with a little help from an upbeat coach who believes in you (even when you don't).

Tip Of The Day:
A labeler can be your best friend! Use it for: top tab file folders, light switches, cordless phones, info on how to use the copier, cosmetic bottles, the front of file cabinets and desk drawers, notebook binders....unlimited uses and the vinyl tapes are removable from most surfaces!

Educational Background: Emory University School of Law, J.D. Emory University B.A. in Music History Continuing Medical Education Course and "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Across the Lifespan" at Harvard Medical School

Work Experience: Currently at Odyssey Coaching & Consulting, coaching adults challenged by cognitive impairments brought on by attentional and other learning disorders, information processing deficits and significant hearing loss.

Personal philosophy about ADD coaching: Homer has found his calling in life – to assist people in overcoming the challenges of ADD, ADHD, and hearing loss. Successful AD/HD coaching is an open and honest partnership between client and coach. Unlike psychotherapy, coaching does not seek to plumb the depths of a client's psyche. Coaching is action oriented. Coaches work with clients to reverse a history of failure by devising strategies to overcome obstacles that have hindered their success. Homer is a graduate of the College and Law School of Emory University. Until 2001, when he left Atlanta-based King & Spalding, he practiced law in a variety of different settings from general counsel of a large publicly held savings bank to JAG officer in the US Air Force. During that time, he acquired experience in teaching as an adjunct professor of administrative law at the National Paralegal Training Institute. In his 30th year, Homer decided to become a hearing enhancement coach to assist professionals, including lawyers, experiencing hearing loss or other sensory challenges which can threaten functionality. He trained under a Master Certified Coach and graduated from the American Coaching Association in Philadelphia. He also has successfully completed a distance course, "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Across the Lifespan," jointly planned and produced by Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Psychiatry. In May 2005, he completed the SHHH-RERC Hearing Assistive Training and Outreach Training Program, in Dallas, TX. In addition, Homer has matriculated in the inaugural class of a two-year program at Gallaudet University. The program at Gallaudet leads to a professional certificate in Peer Mentoring for Hearing Enhancement. Through the years, Homer has maintained a special interest in issues related to mental health and the challenges of hearing loss. From 1996 through 2003 he served as a board member for Compeer Atlanta, a nationally based non-profit organization which pairs qualified community volunteers with persons at risk for becoming homeless or institutionalized. Homer also brings to the partnership his own experience with late onset hearing loss, auditory processing disorder, ADHD and other co-existing conditions. He continues to serve the legal profession though his membership and active participation in the Georgia and American Bar Associations. In August 2004, he was appointed to serve on the Georgia Bar Association's Lawyer Assistance Program Committee whose purpose is to identify and assist Bar members and their families who are experiencing problems with alcohol, drugs, psychological, stress-related and other impairing conditions which can negatively impact their functionality at home and in their legal careers.
